A few lessons were learned on Sunday. First of all, if you have never gone cross country skiing, watching a couple 3 minute introductory lessons on YouTube may not be the best approach to learning on your own. It leads to not knowing how to stop properly. Which is kind of important.
Second, if you are a somewhat competent down hill skier, you have a little advantage but (as we quickly learned) these skis do not snow plow nor turn the same!!!
Third, it can be fun once you get the hang of it and get into a rhythm. It also helps when the terrain is nearly flat, has no hills, nor any turns 😋
In the end, it was a fun experiment, but a little sketchy and painful with how often we fell and how out of control we were on the bunny slope hills in the cross country park. I’ll definitely try the sport again as I can see it can be fun once you get a feel for how the skis work and a great workout. I’d prefer a short lesson first!
